Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)

Magnetic Testing is used to detect surface and slightly subsurface flaws and discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials such as carbon steel.  

Principal uses for Magnetic Testing include the final receiving and in process inspections of welding, castings and forgings.  

Components manufactured for the power generation, oil and gas, structural steel fabrication, pressure vessels and tanks as well as the automotive, rail or aircraft industry are often inspected utilizing Magnetic Particle testing for quality control purposes.  

Testing during maintenance or overhaul of industrial machinery while shutdown is also often performed. Items typically inspected as part of a shut down or as part of a preventative maintenance program may include components such as lifting devices, hooks, elevating platforms, rotating equipment.
